I.

Rubies were Tana's favorites, and it may be overplaying his hand, but regardless of the legalities of the situation, she had given Kellom his firstborn son and deserved to be rewarded.

II.

So many things in this family were kept secret, hidden from each other and most especially from the world, so Deva turned a blind eye to the (incredibly) suspect paternity of her newest nephew--it was either that or know that the disaster already bearing down on her home was multiplied a hundredfold.

III.

Sola brought her youngest--her only girl--to meet her new cousin--since they were so close in age (Nava wasn't even five yet), despite the fact that she herself and Tana had never gotten along (or really even associated much at all), maybe the little ones could be friends.

IV.

Keta had stayed with Tana the whole day through--it had been long for her, as well, longer than any of Sola's had ever been, or than Mera had taken--and was pleased to be there to help welcome her tiny new nephew into the world.

V.

Things were so confusing, and the child was a tipping point--even if his sisters pretended not to notice, they all know who the baby's father was, and whatever--whatever was in Andrell's head, he couldn't stay anymore, he had to make his move.

VI.

Tana's child was unlikely to cause problems for the movement--whether or not he was allowed into the succession at all, given his bastard status, was up for debate, and even if he was, he was fourteenth in line to the throne--but, then again, given how Kellom had taken such an interest in him, he was well worth Rema's close attention.

VII.

Nida wept silently when he was given her husband's name.

VIII.

Tana held her son--her triumph--and smiled sleepily as Kellom put the ruby drops in her ears, oblivious to all else--she had him, she had her future, she had everything she could ever possibly desire.
