Ineku knew his wife very well. He knew that she was more than capable of lying to him, looking him right in the eye with that eerie cold hypnotic gaze she had perfected. Like a snake, bearing down on him, inescapable.
"Our children are safer this way," she said simply.
She would never admit she had killed Odaki--she had too much to lose--any more than she would have if he had asked her when Minalu or Lidare died.
But she hadn't lied.
Ineku nodded and kissed her hand. She hadn’t told him the truth, exactly.
