Notes: The year is 1108 AW. The Everarts have sent their daughters to the court of King Rene III of Iberte to serve as maids of honor to his wife, Amelie. Amelie is the younger sister of King Henri I.
Jean Michele came into the bedroom. His wife, Elisabetta, was sitting up in bed.
“I thought you would be asleep,” Jean Michele said climbing into the bed.
Elisabetta shook her head. She leaned over and placed a kiss on her husband’s cheek.
“I was worried about the children,” Elisabetta said sighing.
Jean Michele nodded. “They will indeed be the death of us.”
Elisabetta laughed. “Especially little Anna.”
Jean Michele smiled. “Anna was always a handful. But Marie is worrying me.”
Elisabetta stifled a yawn. “Anna will cause more trouble than Marie.”
Jean Michele looked at his wife. “Do you really think so?”
“Anna has a more forceful personality than Marie. Marie has always been a sweetheart.”
“I suppose so,” Jean Michele agreed.
Elisabetta smiled before reaching over to tuck in her husband.
“Let us not worry for now. Get some sleep, my dear.”
Jean Michele kissed Elisabetta on the forehead. She blew out the candle on the stand before cuddling up to her husband.
The couple was soon asleep, content in each other’s arms.
