Loki lies on his side in her lap, clasping his bottle in his clever little hands, making quiet sucking noises as April reads her assigned chapters. She strokes the top of his head gently, contemplating Proust.

The porch swing rocks gently under her, the scent of her Poppy's garden rising soft to her nose. All her parents are here, if she thinks about it-- Poppy's garden, Loki, her gift from Daddy, Mama Chloe in the music playing upstairs, Mama Joy in the light happy breeze playing along her neck.

They're with her, always.

Loki burps, and April turns the page.
