Metallic Gold #7, Opal Jasper #5
Name: shadowsong26
Story: Finding a Future
'Verse: Lux
Colors: Metallic Gold #7. skill, Opal Jasper #5. hail and farewell
Supplies and Materials: graffiti (Lilith Faire Day Four: Village Stage), photography, life drawing, eraser (Regency AU)
Word Count: 213
Rating: PG-13
Characters: Dimana
Warnings: Background period-appropriate sexism.
Notes: Constructive criticism welcome, as always.
It took Dimana three days to be sure he was actually gone. That she had been abandoned by the man her family had refused for her, that she had accepted anyway. She'd gone into this with her head high and aware of the consequences--at least of being disowned, so the scandal wouldn't harm her cousins and their prospects too much.
His desertion was, after seven months, not entirely a surprise. After the first rush of their elopement had faded--and it had quickly faded--he had become more and more distant.
That didn't mean it didn't hurt; that all the hopes she had pinned on this man--this boy--this rogue she had thought she'd loved, that she'd thought had loved her, too...
It hurt, to know all of that was gone.
But she was pretty, and bright, and charming, and had a talent for holding the attention of onlookers. And a certain steely stubbornness that had driven her mother to distraction.
She could survive this loss. She had no more reputation, no chance of anything like a normal life, but respectability wasn't everything.
Dimana allowed herself a day to grieve, to curse her faithless lover's name in every inventive way she knew, and then dried her eyes and set about finding herself a future without him.

She does, yeah. It's not a fun experience but she makes it through.

I'm not sure about a cliff, but she might or might not get an opportunity to subtly flaunt one of her protectors/lovers in his face later. Like, 'I did so much better than you in the end. You can't afford me now.'
