PCE Cats (Memory Of Cacophony -> Moonsparkle Hill):
The not-cat language has many words for love! theres a word for romantic love, quuerplatonic love, and a generic word that could mean either. there also WAS a word specifically just for platonic like "i love you" said to friends or family members, but that word fell from the common lexicon sometime during the Earth era, meaning that Orbit is going to have some culture shock if he ends up in the current pce era AND that a few not-cat scholars will be curious about him
tbh considering the length of time between MoC and canonical pce (includ. MsH) orbit (and plums, if she also joins them there)... well, there could be all sorts of language differences between them and most not-cats lol
I imagine there's a word that translates to "Partner/Best Friend" and is used exclusively to refer to large groups or future prospects lol
Aerie:
the Shepfolk word for dog translates to 'sheepdog'. to refer to a pet that doesn't do herding duties, 'pet' from 'pet sheep' is placed in front
many elven/part-elven (such as shepfolk) cultures have direct translations for words such as "xenogender" & "neopronoun". they also have a word for "a gender which has traits of both male and female but is neither". aka mary's gender
yes arthur freaked out and shook mary when she realized they know what a xenogender is
