That's pretty interesting! Usually when people reference the Catholic Church, they only talk about things like social conservatism, or opposition to science, or organizational corruption, but I always found the Church from the Medieval era much more interesting, with the power struggle they had with the kings and the monastic schools and later universities that they ran. I always wondered if, in some alternate universe, they could have still been seen as aligned with learning and education in the modern era. The religion in my current project isn't in any way based on the Catholic Church from a purely organizational perspective, but I've tried to play with those other ideas a bit with it.
