It was a little ridiculous, when she thought about it.
She and Lux had known each other for maybe six months, been seeing each other for less than two, and here she was, daydreaming about all the silly little moments of domestic bliss that come with a lifelong relationship.
Not the deep, abiding passion you'd think would be first in her thoughts, right at the start of something new, like it had been with some of her other girlfriends in the past. Not the sex, not the wedding--well, all right, yeah, she thought about those things too, but.
What she kept coming back to was the little things.
Bringing Lux home to Earth on vacation, to meet her parents and just walk along the beach, holding hands. Maybe, the next time they had the time off from work, going to Lux's home with her, meeting her family.
Sitting across the table from each other, here on the Station, or somewhere else she couldn't quite picture; not holding hands or even necessarily talking, but just. Being there. Together. Content with each other's presence and not needing anything more.
Watching the sun rise and set together, on the porch of a place they might own or might just be visiting. Sometimes the familiar sun of Earth, sometimes that same sun but dimmer, or a variant color, seen from another planet in the solar system. Sometimes a totally foreign one, and all that might mean.
It didn't matter. What mattered was being together, and that sense of...peace, forever, all the little day-to-day joys that...
Obviously she wasn't going to say anything about this. Not for at least another few months. It was way, way too early for any of that, even without the layers of confusion that an interspecies relationship threw into the mix.
But...well. Maybe it was ridiculous, and she was definitely getting ahead of herself, but at the same time...it was nice, the daydreaming. And it couldn't hurt to keep picturing it, at least in the privacy of her own mind.
Besides. There was always the chance that she'd get lucky, and someday they'd all come true.
