The ship rocked beneath Ivy’s feet as they sailed out of Plymouth. Her ship now, her very own, her first voyage as the captain. She had dreamed of this for so long.
Her sailors swarmed the rigging. Her bosun shouted orders. Her helmsman guided them out into the open ocean. Her ocean. Queen of the seas.
And yes, that meant she had responsibility for it, all these lives and all this space. She might be afraid of it that later. But right now, climbing her rigging, she was too happy.
She was ready for this.
Everyone else better look out.
