Halloween Orange #14, Spring Green #11
Name: shadowsong26
Story: (don't) stay the night
'Verse: Untitled Intrigues Story
Colors: Halloween Orange #14. Do you follow it because it's true, or just because you must?, Spring Green #11. I never took the easy way (with paint-by-numbers from bookblather: Sef and his weird thruple.)
Supplies and Materials: graffiti (Lilith Faire Day 6: Main Stage), photography, miniature collection, paint-by-numbers, watercolors, modeling clay, novelty beads (If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice. - Rush, Freewill),
Word Count: 280
Rating: PG-13
Characters: Landelye, Tahnrin, Sefalin
Warnings: References to an uncle and niece sharing a lover, political machinations.
Notes: Constructive criticism welcome, as always.
Sefalin doesn’t stay the night.
Del knows why; she knows that if he stayed with her, that would be making a choice. She’s made her peace with that, that having him means only having a part of him.
But seeing him there, outlined in the moonlight, like a hazy dream as he pulls reality back on with his clothes…
She’s had lovers before. But never anyone who made her feel like this. And sometimes, foolishly, selfishly, she wishes they could have more.

Sefalin doesn’t stay the night.
Tahnrin doesn’t mind. He prefers it that way, really. Fewer rumors, fewer complications.
Life is already so complicated.
So he tells himself, the first time he reaches for glib excuses to convince the priest to stay, that it’s politics. That it’s the rivalry with Landelye, the chance to win this hand, even if it won’t win him the entire game.
But Tahnrin, consummate liar that he is, makes a point of not lying to himself.
He must be some kind of masochist, if this is the lover that he genuinely wants to stay.

Sefalin doesn’t stay the night.
Partly for his vows--priests may take lovers, but not make commitments.
Partly for politics--even if he chose to stay with both, whoever came first…he would be seen as backing their claim.
But he feels Landelye watch him dress to go; listens to Tahnrin attempt to persuade him to stay, and…
It’s not that he loves one more; or values either above his faith, his mission.
But something draws him, like they’ve been here, waiting, his entire life.
So he does what he must, but he wishes--oh, how he wishes he could stay.
