No matter how many times Beatrice Milton accomplished something great, she always felt a sense of joy; whether it was completing her doctorate, finishing a building project, or the smaller, more mundane victories that led to the great ones--and even the ones that didn't; that were as simple and straightforward as baking cookies or making a meal and having it turn out right.

Sometimes, it was those small victories that carried the most weight. Especially when nothing else seemed to be going right, which was unfortunate but not infrequent.

Because, whatever the accomplishment, she had done it. She had built it. She had created something, even if it was ephemeral. It was an entirely new beginning, for her and everyone else involved. She had learned, over the years, how valuable that idea of creation and re-creation and new beginnings was to people. And to her.

And every time, she felt that same joy. It reminded her why she was here, more than her broader mission. It made up for the harder moments in between; the frustrations and the failures that, of course, she faced along the way. The endless waiting for things to go right.

She was an architect. She built things, helped them transition from ideas to reality.

She created worlds anew.
