Cerise #8, Lapis Lazuli #9
Name: shadowsong26
Story: cocoon
'Verse: Lux
Colors: Cerise #8. Sleeping in, Lapis Lazuli #9. gingerly
Supplies and Materials: graffiti (Lilith Faire Day 3: Second Stage), photography, pointilism, miniature collection, eraser (Ruth AU), novelty beads ("you take me in/no questions asked/you strip away the ugliness/that surrounds me." Sweet Surrender, Sarah McLachlan)
Word Count: 249
Rating: PG-13
Characters: Ruth, Simon (here known as David)
Warnings: Michaela being Michaela in the background; the story deals with a couple after a long separation and slowly working their way back together; oblique/implied sex.
Notes: Constructive criticism welcome, as always.
david has been back in her life for six months now, and it’s been hard, it’s been an adjustment, to say the least, but he’s still here; their son is spending the night at a friend’s house, a birthday party, and ruth thinks--why not?
six months later, and he’s as certain as he can be that he made the right choice, coming back to ruth as soon as he remembered her; each visit has been less and less awkward, he has a son, one she’s allowed him to know--but it’s all still new and not entirely real, so he gets up to leave, as usual, but then she catches his hand.
she and david had been together for years before, and he had left her pregnant, but this first time back together feels new and special; the same hearts and bodies, but not exactly the same; learning one another all over again.
after, he lies next to her in the bed, listening to her breathe, memorizing every second, every sensation; hoping he’ll be able to hold onto it the next time michaela takes him away.
the next time will be simpler, and easier, and probably still special though in a different way; but this first night, they spend side by side, together; tomorrow reality will ensue and who knows how long it will last, but for tonight, they can wrap themselves in a cocoon of memory that, if only for a moment, no one can take away.
