There's still a red stain on the concrete sidewalk.

Peter never met Miranda's family. He doesn't know how to reach them without sounding like a crackpot-- and anyway, she did leave him. Just because he knows she lied doesn't mean they do.

So this is the closest he can get to her right now, this bloodstain on the sidewalk where she fell. He can't even kneel down and touch it, because the crime scene tape keeps him distant.

A week ago he'd have given anything for her to come back to him. Now?

Now he only wants her to live.

He was a client who asked Miranda out once his case was done, and as far as he knows her family doesn't know about him (they do, actually). So he feels like he'd sound like a random dude trying to pretend he's her boyfriend to get into the hospital room.
