Skylight 18: Small Town Boy
Author: Kat
Title: Small Town Boy
Story: In the Heart
Colors: Skylight 18 (Urban decay)
Supplies and Materials: Graffiti (Lilith Faire Main Stage: Sycamore Tree, Seanan McGuire), seed beads, beading wire (two worlds one sun)
Word Count: 356

Summary: Ahava runs into her senior-year boyfriend.
Warning: none.
Notes: Ahava is Joanna's half-sister, and was adopted by the Jacksons.
"Ahava?"
Ahava looked up from her salad and her patient file and blinked across the cafe table at her senior-year boyfriend. "Liam?" she asked, hardly believing.
"It's me," he said, and grinned at her, slightly disbelieving himself. He was still taller than he had any right to be, though he'd filled out from his high-school gangliness. His light curly hair was under more control now, and he wore glasses, but she could still see the boy she'd dumped the week before they went to college. He'd been remarkably understanding about it.
"What are you doing here?" she asked. She flipped the file shut and swept it off the table into her bag. "Last I heard, you were still living in Arab."
He ducked his head and rubbed his hand across his neck, just the way he'd done in high school when he was feeling particularly sheepish. "I still live there, I'm just here on business. I, um, I'm getting married, actually."
Something in Ahava relaxed that she didn't know had tensed. "That's great!" she said, and gestured at the chair across from her. "Who to? Anyone I know?"
"Sarah Campbell," he said, without taking the seat she offered. "She was a year or two ahead of us in high school."
She thought she remembered Sarah, an unmemorable mousy girl with the prettiest smile. "Right, yeah. Congratulations to both of you."
"Thanks." He fidgeted for a minute, then said, "I guess you're here for good, then."
"What, New York?" She shrugged. "I don't know. I like the city but it does kind of smell." Not that she was ever moving back to Arab. Ahava loved her parents, but her brothers and sisters and Duncan had all moved away, so what reason did she have to live there anymore? "I might go to LA. I haven't decided yet."
Liam opened his mouth, then shut it again. "LA's nice, I guess," he said, at last. "Well, it was nice to see you. I'll send you an invitation to the wedding."
"Yeah, do that," she said, and waved as he went out the door, ducking his head under the lintel.
