Lonura knew that her princess's relationships didn't last very long, which was a little sad, maybe, when she finally got her chance with her.

But she also knew that, if she tried to force the issue, it would just end things faster.

She wanted Nolani, more than anything, for as long as she'd have her. Because the princess was charming, and beautiful, and kind, and had so much room in her heart. All Lonura wanted was a place in it. That was all she had wanted from the moment she'd come to court, really, and realized it was possible, that she had a chance of claiming it. If only for a little while.

So she resolved, when she left the princess's room after their first night together, to be gentle. Not to take things slow, because--well, that door had already been shut behind them. And it wouldn't really suit either of them, even if it hadn't.

But not to hold too tight. Not to make her princess feel trapped or unhappy. To take things as they came, and not rush or ask for too much, too soon; even if everything in Lonura wanted to hold tight, to ask for forever, to give voice to all these feelings building up inside her. It hadn't taken her long to realize that was how deeply she was in this, already.

But that would only make Nolani feel pressured, or guilty, and that was the last thing Lonura wanted.

And maybe--maybe--

True, all of her prior relationships had been short, but Nolani was near the end of her wildfire years. Maybe she'd be willing to settle down soon. If Lonura handled things just right, held her just enough, and gave her time and love, maybe she'd get lucky, and Nolani would stay.

Lonura smiled, as she drifted down the palace halls to her own room. Maybe she was wrong, maybe the timing was wrong, and her time with her princess would end like all the others.

But she was willing to wait, and hope, hold her peace; to be as quiet and as gentle as she needed, if it gave her that kind of a chance.
