While Isshiri can mostly provide for himself when he’s on his own in the wilderness, there are a few things he doesn’t try to deal with on his own.

Medicines, for one. He can treat his own injuries, to a point. He can stitch himself up, if he cuts himself badly enough to need it--and has, more times than his older sister will ever learn--and at least once he popped a dislocated shoulder back into place on his own. But any actual compounds he might take, he leaves to the professionals. Too easy to make a mistake and accidentally poison himself.

Unfamiliar plant life in general--hunting unfamiliar animals is almost never a problem, but he avoids wild berries and so on unless he is absolutely sure he knows what he’s looking at.

(He tells himself that instinct comes from whatever common sense he has, but he knows it’s way more likely that Father drilled that into his brain once his driving fire was obvious.)

Soap is another one. He knows how, technically, but the one time he tried, he didn’t get the mix of lye and fat quite right and--well, he didn’t want to go through that again.

It’s not a very long list, sure, but it’s still there. The point is, for some things, it’s a much, much better idea to stock up whenever he’s in a town or visiting home rather than trying to fend for himself.

And Isshiri is smart enough to figure that out.

…eventually, anyway.
