Thank you! I'm v fond of the original, and I suddenly had the thought of how the flowers thing would inevitably have played out in the AU and had to do it.
I looked up the flowers myself and got a slightly different meaning which honestly just enhanced the story.
When I wrote the original I spent ages looking up the language of flowers on modern sites and old books via Google Books and it became clear that they do differ slightly anyway, but there is also a difference between the older and the modern and particularly (as ever) between British and American and almost all of the internet sources were (as ever) American, so I got my references from this book, which was old and British and therefore might have been available to these characters, and no doubt the one that Isabel owned. Presumably Julia's guy at the market stall also coincidentally had a copy.
Anyway, flower meanings make great story prompts, really; that's my conclusion. :-D
