Lapis Lazuli 18: Mama
Author: Kat
Title: Mama
Story: In the Heart - Spartacus AU
Colors: Lapis lazuli 18 (breathtaking)
Supplies and Materials: Eraser (Spartacus AU), oils (lost and found)
Word Count: 171
Rating: PG-13
Summary: Summer catches a break.
Warnings: Slavery, but that's about it. Brutal AU though.
Notes: Still mostly based off the show.
Mama. It's Mama.
She's been so afraid, ever since they sold her. She'd known it would happen, but she'd forgotten how overwhelming it could be, how terror could whiten the world and leave her gasping. Her new owner pulls her stumbling from the cart and she feels her throat closing over, feels her joints freeze--
and he thrusts her into Mama's arms.
Summer wants to bury her face in Mama's shoulder, wants to cry out her panic and sickness and exhaustion, wants to tell about her boys and the baby, wants to ask about Papa and Aaron and Ivy, wants to just cling to her mother in silence, all at once. But they both know better, she guesses, than to let him know who they are to each other. Owners only use that to hurt, so she does nothing, only looks at the ground while Mama speaks to him.
Then Mama's arms close tight around her as she guides her away, and for the first time in years, Summer feels safe.
