A part of Fesha was tempted to just--walk out the door, at least for a while. Or to ask Deshell to leave for a few days. Once Selmid was a little more settled in, of course. There was no sense in compounding an innocent child's trauma. None of this was in any way his fault. Just--

She loved her husband. She really, truly did. But he didn't listen. He failed to consider the impact that his actions, his choices, had on her and her sons. He was so wrapped up in his other concerns--and, sure, they were important--that he seemed to barely even think of how his family might be affected.

And while she of course didn't object to him bringing Selmid home, the way he'd gone about it--just turning up with a child in tow, not a word of waring, when he had had more than enough time to send a letter so she and the boys could prepare.

It was a symptom of a much larger problem. And it was getting very, very close to the last straw.

But there were consequences to her actions, too. Separating from Deshell would have very, very serious ones. And part of her--most of her, really--still loved him, still believed they could fix this, still wanted to stay, once she took a breath and thought for a minute. Despite her fury.

So, she and her husband would talk tonight, after all three boys were alseep. And it wouldn't be immediate; it would take time and a lot of work to repair their marriage. She knew that. But if he would listen to her, tonight, for once, that would be a start.

And if he didn't...

Well. For now, she would focus on hoping that he did.

I think it does work? I hope it does work. Fesha is in no way wrong about any of this, and Deshell does need to listen, but they're so... happy, when things work. So I hope it works again.
