Mel wrapped his arms around himself, and sat shivering in the cave. He should've put more thought into supplies before trying to cross the mountains, or at least found a less punishing pass, but the need to put an entire mountain range between himself and--

He cut himself off and looked away from his little fire, focusing on the night sky instead of the cold and the memory of what he'd seen.

Such a pretty moon...

He rested his chin on his knees, and spent the rest of the night watching it and, very carefully, thinking about nothing at all.
