Blue Caravan 8: Downsides
Author: Kat
Title: Downsides
Story: In the Heart
Colors: Blue caravan 8 (Soon as this wall in my heart comes down, I'm gonna make it feel like home)
Supplies and Materials: Miniature collection, brush (belie), glue (However, you may be feeling a bit lost today), frame
Word Count: 300
Rating: PG
Summary: Not everything's happy all the time.
Warnings: none.
Notes: Okay so apparently I meant the flood today.
Zack can't help worrying.
They're just so good together. Felipe so devoted to Summer, and Summer so loving. He'll stand back sometimes and watch them cuddled together on the couch, Felipe lying with his head in her lap, and when he turns over, she sweeps his hair away from his brow.
It's not jealousy. It's not, and if Zack keeps telling himself that he'll believe it. But it really isn't the jealousy people assume. He doesn't want to take them away from each other. He just feels excluded sometimes. Not very often, but sometimes.
Maybe that's just how it works.
--
Felipe is acutely aware that they didn't get married because of him.
That's not strictly accurate. They've had a ceremony, the three of them, pledging lives and hearts like any other marriage; it's just not legal. But that's not the point, the point-- they were going to get married, and he came along and fucked it all up, and sometimes he thinks they regret it.
How could they not? Summer just wants to be normal, bless her, and Zack did have his proposal belatedly rejected and maybe they'd be better off.
He tries not to think about this too often.
--
Summer's not like them, and it nibbles at her sometimes.
Not that there's anything wrong with how she is. She does know that. She only needs to be herself with them, and most of the time she doesn't even think about it.
But she sees her boys falling into an easy banter, laughing at something she doesn't understand, and for a split second before one of them turns to her and explains it she feels so apart, so isolated.
They don't do it on purpose. They probably never even think about it. But she does, sometimes.
She can't help it.
