Octarine 17: I expect I've saved the day, right?

Author: [personal profile] novel_machinist
Story:
Theme: Literary / Octarine
Word Count: ~450
Summary: This is a plot bunny that may or may not go anywhere. I always wonder what happens to the epic heroing party after the hero business has ended. If I get poked for this again, then I'll add to it.
Rating: PG
Warnings: None
Notes: This is practice for a specific sort of rambling storyteller style. Let me know if it works or not?

This story isn't about saving the world.

Once upon a time there was a powerful wizard or perhaps a sorceress. Maybe they were actually a warrior, come to think of it. What the bad guy was before they were the bad guy doesn't really make a lick of difference when you're looking at the story. At any rate, they realized that the world as a whole had done them a great injustice. This injustice needed to be righted; they needed to claim the world as their own to ensure that everyone who had wronged them faced their wrathful judgment.

As you can probably imagine, the rest of the world wasn't too keen on the idea. Wrathful judgment is all well and good in theory, but once it's put into practice it's difficult to see a hard stop. What started out as a few wars, a minor skirmish, turned into a full-blown catastrophe that threatened the very fabric of reality – or so the story goes. Some people claim they barely noticed while others spread stories of demons and burned down villages.

For the record, it was truly a bad event, one that could have turned the world as topsy turvy as a round object could be. What saved the world was a boy with a war hammer of only 19 years. Little did he know that he would become a king when he met a witch and the two became fast friends. Even after the two boys gathered a whole band of heroes they were clueless to the real future.

It wasn't until the bad guy's demons lay slain and the massive horror that it summoned was dead at his feet did that now 21 year old boy realize that he was to be a king. It wasn't until the dust settled and the witch had took over an ancient order sworn to protect from demons that they realized their time together was over. They drifted apart with no catastrophe to hold them together.

They came together once after the death of the queen in a violent, magical circumstance. It was then that they realized that they would possibly never truly be the friends they thought they were.

This story is about what happened to the heroes once the world had been saved.
