The weeks after Isshiri woke but before he was recovered enough to go home were possibly the happiest in Riluke's life--almost definitely the happiest since she'd moved here. She loved her work, and her new friends, but...
There was something about being a haven; something about her house, on its cliff overlooking a public beach, where children played. It made her an island of life for Isshiri and Mel, after all they had lived through.
It was simple, but it was sweet. Whatever came after, Riluke would treasure the memory of those three weeks for the rest of her life.
