He knew she was a metal-mage. He'd spotted her in her forge and carefully watched for a while. She wasn't an Unthreaded fire-mage, manipulating the heat. She wasn't a non-mage, using brute force and cleverness alone. No, the metal itself was responding to her, no matter how cool.

He waited until the end of her day, when there were few people about and she was tired, and then went inside, gutted her, and slit her throat before she could scream. He watched her die, then walked away.

It was easy.
