And done with Ibiza! Comments, criticism, and questions are all appreciated.

When Kara began seeing houses, she barely slowed down. There were no cars, had been no cars still, even with the sun high in the sky, and the houses were just little white rectangles peeking their heads out from over the scrubland hills. They were life. They were the first soft touches of wakefulness on the long dream those past few days had been. She'd thought she would cry, or cheer, or dance, or freak out, but most of Kara's worrying had been done the night before, and she found herself almost as dry of emotions as she was of water.

Sophie was a hundred feet ahead of her, Ichi trotting alongside, and she jogged to catch up.

"Are there-" -the question caught in Kara's throat- "do you think there are people?"

Sophie graced her with a smirk, though it didn't seem entirely sincere. "There will be. Don't look so pleased."

Three days of sleeping on the ground, sunburn, thirst, and brain-jitters from eating nothing but candy and bagged popcorn had taken its toll on her. She still had no idea what had happened to her classmates. Mora, so the sign said, was small and covered in scrubland hills. They hardly saw anything for a while; she didn't really even know why they were still walking, why they didn't go bang on the door of the nearest house, if they were going somewhere specific. She just followed Sophie.

An old, blue pickup truck sped towards them down the road.

Kara stopped. She stopped, then Sophie tugged at her jacket and they both jogged closer to the side of the road. Sophie looked wary, almost frightened; Kara felt a tear run down one dirty cheek.

The truck was going pretty fast, but it slowed down as it began to pass them. Ichi's ears went back when the man stopped. He was a sort of average-aged adult, vaguely Hispanic, in overalls and a work shirt. The truck itself was rusty and its tires were just about white with dust.

"Are you girls all right?"

Kara didn't know how to respond at first. Sophie tried to indicate something, but Kara started breaking down.

"My ph- my phone." There was no other word for it. Tears, sunburn, humiliation; her cheeks burned like fire. "I- I need to charge my phone, the- my classmates- bus- I mean-"

She had no idea where to start, how to explain anything. She blubbered on for a few more incoherent sentences, under her breath by the end.

There was a moment of silence as the man looked between the two of them and the road. His face was uncertain, tense.

"We should go," Sophie said softly, tugging on Kara's jacket sleeve again.

The man hesitated, looking at Kara, then asked: "You sure?"

Neither of them said anything for a while. The truck shifted forward a bit, and Kara choked.

"H- hey- do you have any water?"

"Water?"

"I... We've been walking so long, and we ran out of water this morning. Just a, a bottle." Kara wrapped her arms around herself, suddenly feeling chilly.

The man's face fell, and he ran his fingers through his hair. Sophie's face was a mask, but her fear was clearly making Ichi increasingly nervous.

"Shit... Why don't you hop in the back and I'll take you down to the store?"
