Famous #27
Name: Greenling
Story: All Great Things
Colors: Famous #27 (It's hard to feel the rush, to brush the dangerous)
Supplies and Styles: Graffiti (TVTropes: Damsel out of Distress, Selectively Lethal Weapon, Surprise Checkmate (kinda))
Word Count: 543
Rating: PG
Warnings: Some bloody violence to monsters.
Summary: Dmitry and Diana go out to capture monsters, and we get to see exactly what kind of "psychic powers" Diana actually has. (Or one of the two, at least.)
Also, hey, did you remember there was a villain? I mostly didn't! He's not actually that important 'til the end. Here's what he's been doing.
Comments, criticism, and questions are all appreciated.
Fifty feet away, they were closing on her.
Dmitry watched it happen out of the corner of his eye. The cemetery wasn't just a nest of demons, it was a goddamn breeding ground, and they were popping out of thin air all around them. Dmitry had his sword, and the other woman who'd come with them apparently punched like a tank, but all Diana had was a gun- and it looked like she had just run out of bullets.
A disturbing calm filled him as he advanced, hacking a pair of demons in two with a lazy overhead slice. He ran, but time slowed to a crawl. Every flying drop of blood and dissolving viscera was etched in his mind; three demons. Five- one flanking her. How many could he hit without hitting her? The blade wouldn't cut her if he asked, but it would still hurt like hell, wouldn't it?
An eerie light cast through the cemetary, centered on him.

"Checkmate!"
A man sat on a grand black throne of skulls, in front of a chess board, in a large room filled with large monitors, flashing lights, and strangely unlabeled buttons. His eyes were dark and puffy, and his hair was dark with sweat. Also in the room- in the sense that such a thing can be "in" anything- was a purplish-black void. It covered an entire relative direction of the room, positioned, more or less, by the other end of the chessboard.
"I do not think you know how to play this game," said the horrible, disembodied void. For whatever reason, it had a pronounced British accent.
"What? Your king is in check. He can't go anywhere." The man gestured to the chessboard. "That's called checkmate."
The void burbled. "Your bishop can be destroyed. Like so:" A black knight floated over to the white bishop, knocking it over. "That is just check. Not checkmate."
"But we've been playing for an hour! And who are you to lecture me on chess? You're just a void!"
"You were the one who insisted I learn this silly game. Shouldn't you be checking on our demons?" the void replied. its patience beyond reckoning.
"Oh, fine, fine, we'll take a break." The man pushed his throne back away from the table and rolled back over to the console with the monitors and flashing lights.

"Volkova, duck!"
Five feet away from the horde, burning with magenta light; the sword was raised at an angle over his head-
Enough of his mind remained to realize that Diana was also glowing and take the preventive step of dropping to the ground.
A demon stepped backwards onto his chest, then they all exploded.
"Hadoken, motherfuckers!" Diana exclaimed with glee as she leapt over Dmitry, headed towards the next-nearest group of them with her forearms wrapped in white-hot flame.
Dmitry flinched as a single ember of ex-demon hit him. "Could've fucking said you could do that earlier!"
"Noted!" she replied, a wicked grin on her face as she focused to fire apparently an actual no-shit fireball at a demon. "Now pick your balls up and catch one of these things in the net so we can get out of here!"
"Everybody gets cooler superpowers than me," Dmitry grumbled under his breath.

The chess match in the middle is interesting. I wonder what's up with those two?

Now, not mentioning it, that was just her being an ass and not thinking of it.
I'll be expanding on this piece eventually, so hopefully the middle bits will make sense beyond just being amusing. Humor is just easier to write for stuff I have a day or less to get done.
Thanks for reading!

And nice action scene.
