Nelly shivers. The guards having left and she is alone. Alone in a cold and dark cell. And she is scared.
Taking a deep breath she wraps her arms around her. Rubbing her hands over her arms, trying to get the chill out of her bones, trying to get warm, trying to feel a little safe. She knows it will not work...
Rafael. Timmy.
She's scared for them. Her lover. Her brother. The two persons she cares about most in this world. Luckily mother is safely at home.
A sigh escapes her. There will be no sleep tonight. When she looks aside, through the bars in the window, she sees the darkness has fallen already. Stars shining brightly, the moon but a tiny stripe.
She sets herself down against the wall. The hard stones pressing in her back. At any other given time, it would have been painful. But the only things she feels is the cold. And the fear. There is no pain. Taking another deep breath. Not yet at least...
-
It are but four hours later when the sun slowly starts to rise again. Four hours. And she has seen every minute of it. Time has never passed by so slowly and she has gone over every possible doom scenario in her head. Every possible torture for her and her brother and her lover.
She has never feared a new day. But now she does. She's terrified. Not about what they'd do to her, she couldn't care less about what happens to her, but for Timmy and Rafael. She can't help but wondering where they are. Are they captured? Could they flee? Or worse, are they dead?
Lots of tears have been shed this night. Never before has she been so frightened or has she felt so helpless.
-
The guard doesn't say a word when he arrives yet another hour later. Just beckoning her to follow. She looks inside of all the other cells. Searching for the faces of Timmy and Rafael. Hoping she won't see them there. Or perhaps hoping she does. For if she does, it means they aren't dead. Yet...
She has her head bowed when she enters the throne room. Trying to hide how she feels. She feels as if she's being lead to the slaughter house.
A cruel chuckle reaches her ears and despite everything, she looks up. Eyes widening when she sees...
She wants to shout, pull herself free from the guard's hold, run towards them and cry. But she doesn't. Can't.
Timmy. And Rafael. Both with a sword against their throat. But covered in bruises and cuts and blood...
It's what she feared most.
