Warnings: Anna is being Anna.
Notes: Takes place four months after the birth of Anna's third child, Prince Pierre. Marie and Amalia are both fourteen. Amalia is Marie's oldest non family friend. Her father is Carlos Nunez, one of the Ibonian ambassadors to Monde. Oh and there are two Maries in this piece. The first one that speaks is Lady Marie Fitzbois, Anna's elder sister and the second is Princess Marie-Therese, Anna's step-daughter. If you get confused please let me know so I can change it up if it's not clear who's speaking.

“This play is just dreadful,” Anna said to her sister, Marie.

Marie nodded.

“Who wrote it?” Marie asked.

Anna turned to her young stepdaughter, Marie-Therese.

“Do you know who wrote the play?”

Marie sighed.

“Princess Marie, I asked you a question,” Anna said testily.

“Antoine Bonner wrote it, Your Majesty,” Amalia Nunez answered for Marie.

Anna turned to the young girl. She gave her a smile.

“Thank you for answering, Senorita Amalia, it seems as though my dear daughter cannot answer for herself.”

Anna turned back towards the stage.

Amalia exhaled and turned to Marie.

“You didn’t have to answer, Amalia,” Marie whispered.

Amalia smiled at Marie. “You’ll save yourself a lot of trouble if you just go along with her.”

Marie sighed. “I suppose I would, but I don’t want to go along with her. She’s a hag and I cannot wait until my father gets tired of her.

Amalia shushed Marie but couldn’t help but laugh softly.

The two teenagers watched the play cringing at the especially bad parts.

“Has Jehann arrived back yet?” Amalia asked.

Marie didn’t answer her right away. She waited until she was sure that Anna wasn’t going to turn around.

“He hasn’t, but why do you ask?”

Amalia put her head on Marie’s shoulder.

“You can’t hide anything from me, Marie. I know you like him.”

Marie laughed softly. “Of course I like him. He is the perfect example of a great chevalier. Who wouldn’t like him?”

“But you like him as more.”

Marie blushed but didn’t say anything.

“I think it’s over,” Marie Fitzbois said to her sister.

“Thank goodness, I thought it’d never end. I don’t he’ll be earning a patronage from me any time soon,” Anna said standing up.

The two girls rose as well. Lady Marie smiled back at them before turning to her sister.

“I wish if my father had to remarry it would have been to her,” Princess Marie said out of the blue.

Amalia laughed. “Fate doesn’t work like that, Marie.”

Marie sighed. It truly seemed that it didn’t.

Really, what does Henri see in the Anna? That she's a pretty face? Because she's kind of loathsome otherwise.
