Characters: Mary
Warnings: Impending doom of the Henry VIII-executing-his-wives variety. Also, Tana is involved.
Notes: Constructive criticism welcome, as always.

Mary had been expecting a certain amount of conflict with her newest stepmother. For one thing, Queen Tana was a pawn in her own father's scheme to rebalance the great powers of Europe, in a way that might not be in England's best interests. For another, Thomas Cromwell had pushed hard for the match and accompanying treaty. And, of course, she was a Lutheran heretic.

What Mary had not been expecting was the increasingly obvious fact that Queen Tana's temperament was mercurial and volatile, and she was prone to viciousness when enraged.

Much like the King.

Mary had lived through enough upheaval at Court to see the way the winds were blowing. If they were lucky, the coming disaster would only destroy the Queen and her inner circle (and, God willing, Cromwell).

But if not...

She had her own interests to protect, and she was not about to see herself cast aside again. And her brother and sister--they were still only children. She would not see them brought down, either.

So. Without offending her father or the Queen before the inevitable occurred, Mary would take steps to safeguard her future, and ensure her siblings' safety.

She might be unfortunately lacking in actual power or influence, but she had weathered worse storms than Queen Tana. And this time, she knew it was coming. This time, she would be prepared.

Whatever happened next, she would survive it. Just as she always had.

I love you, Mary. And I hope she gets through this okay and intact and fucking queen, bitches. Or at least Regent.
